ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA combines Intel's Moorefield with USB-C

The first of two new Android tablets ASUS has unveiled at the Computex conference here in Taiwan is a bit of a beast. It's got the usual beast of a name to go with it as well — the ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA. (So ZenPad S it shall be.)

This is an Android 5.0 tablet with ZenUI and ZenMotion, as you'd expect. And as the name implies it's got an 8-inch IPS panel, at a 2048x1536 resolution and 324 pixels per inch for a 4:3 aspect ratio. It's got ASUS's TruVivid deal for directly bonded glass and sports a 73.75 percent screen-to-body ratio, ASUS says.

The Intel Atom 3580 Moorefield processor (quad-core at 2.3 GHz will attract attention as well, of course, as Intel continues to make inroads in the consumer space. But so, too, does the inclusion of the newer USB Type-C connector for charging and any sort of data syncing. (Same as what's used in the new MacBook and the ChromeBook Pixel refresh.)

No word on any North American availability just yet, but stay tuned.
