ASUS ZenWatch 2 specs

ASUS has not just one new watch on its hands, but two versions of the ZenWatch 2. It's the sequel to what's been regarded as one of the best Android Wear options available, added a few colors and options for bands — and even is offering a slimmed-down model.

That's just big strokes of what's changed, though. There's actually a good bit going on here. But for now, let's take a look at the basic specs of the ZenWatch 2.

ASUS announces ZenWatch 2 in two sizes and three colors, with optional steel band

ASUS kicks off Computex 2015 with its second Android Wear smartwatch, the ZenWatch 2, announced today at the company's "Zensation" event in Taipei. Building on the design of ASUS' first Android smartwatch, the ZenWatch 2 adds a metal crown, similar to the side-mounted buttons seen on other Android Wear watches, as well as the Apple Watch's digital crown. The new ZenWatch also ditches the frustrating charging dock bundled with the original, instead going with a new magnetic charging setup that ASUS claims allows for faster charging.

ASUS ZenPad 8.0 Z380C tablet lowers the specs, adds functional backs

Being able to swap out the back of a device for a different color or maybe to add a little functionality isn't exactly a new phenomenon — phones have been doing it for years. But tablets never really got into that game. That changes today with the ASUS ZenPad 8.0 Z380C, unveiled at the Computex conference in Taiwan,

The 8-inch tablet sports an Atom X3 (SoFIA) quad-core processor and Mali 450MP4 GPU. The display is a rather unimpressive 1280x800 resolution (at a 16:10 aspect ratio), and you'll get either 1 or 2 gigabytes of RAM along with either 8 or 16 gigabytes of storage, depending on the model.

The real talking points, however, are the back covers. There's the Zen Case back covers, available in leather black, pearl white and aurora metallic. Or you can opt for the Zen Clutch folio. If the 4,000 mAh battery isn't enough for your use, you can snag the Power Case batter back that gives you up to 14 hours of total use, ASUS says. (That includes the internal batter.) There's an Audio Cover that adds six speakers and five hours of battery life, with 5.1 DTS-HD sound.

So while the specs might not wow you, there's definitely a lot here to take a look at.

ASUS ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA combines Intel's Moorefield with USB-C

The first of two new Android tablets ASUS has unveiled at the Computex conference here in Taiwan is a bit of a beast. It's got the usual beast of a name to go with it as well — the ZenPad S 8.0 Z580CA. (So ZenPad S it shall be.)

This is an Android 5.0 tablet with ZenUI and ZenMotion, as you'd expect. And as the name implies it's got an 8-inch IPS panel, at a 2048x1536 resolution and 324 pixels per inch for a 4:3 aspect ratio. It's got ASUS's TruVivid deal for directly bonded glass and sports a 73.75 percent screen-to-body ratio, ASUS says.

The Intel Atom 3580 Moorefield processor (quad-core at 2.3 GHz will attract attention as well, of course, as Intel continues to make inroads in the consumer space. But so, too, does the inclusion of the newer USB Type-C connector for charging and any sort of data syncing. (Same as what's used in the new MacBook and the ChromeBook Pixel refresh.)

No word on any North American availability just yet, but stay tuned.

The ASUS ZenFone Selfie aims to make your mug even prettier

Can you ever take a selfie too easily? ASUS doesn't think so, and the new ZenFone Selfie — announced today at the Computex conference in Taiwan — aims to make taking a self-shot picture of your pretty face even more seamless.

The ZenFone Selfie is a 5.5-inch (1080p) phone running Android 5.0 Lollipop with ASUS' ZenUI on top, complete with ZenMotion, which lets you draw on the screen to launch shortcuts. So for super-fast selfie action, you'd just draw an S on the screen with your finger.

The phone itself will remind you a bit of the HTC Desire Eye, with its large, 13MP camera dominating the front bezel. The front shooter's got a f/2.2 aperture and 24mm wide-angle lens. On back you'll find an f/2.0, 28mm lens with laser autofocus (something we've until now only seen from LG). It's all powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615.
